Venice: Moonlight Over the Grand Canal c. 1870

Venice is the one place in the world that is totally different from anywhere else, in that its labyrinth of canals are its “streets.” Being devoid of any vehicular traffic, its honeycomb of walkways and promenades and variety of fascinating shops, restaurants and museums entice and charm people from all the world over.

The scene, from the Accademia Bridge, shows the visiting American Brig EUROPA unloading with other local deepwater vessels off Campo San Vio, with the church of Santa Maria delta Salute and larger vessels anchored in the Giudecca beyond.
