$900.00

The American clipper ship DASHING WAVE, Built at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1853, was one of the famed ocean flyers that raced around Cape Horn to California in the Gold Rush era. She served many years on the stormy route between the East Coast and San Francisco. She was one of the last true Yankee clippers carrying sail at sea, until she was converted into a barge and was finally wrecked in 1920 on Vancouver Island. This painting shows her passing through the Golden Gate against an evening sky. To starboard of her are several of the lateen rigged craft then used at the port by Italian Fishermen. The vessel towing out is the brigantine COUNTRY FORD, bound for Puget Sound.
