From Geoff Hunt’s definitive series of prints ‘Fighting Sail 1773-1815’ depicting some of the naval ships of the period. The H.M.S. Captain was a 74-gun ship. Commodore Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of St. Vincent in 1797, the highlight of this ship’s career (1784-1813). Nelson’s orders resulted in “Captain” steering through the British line in order to engage the leading Spanish battleships, of which two of the largest surrendered to Nelson himself.
