Amsterdam: The Herengracht
$250.00
Amsterdam, a major trading port modeled centuries ago for the convenience of waterborne traffic. Headquarters of the East India Company, which is still operative today, its labyrinth of canals are lined with stately homes and company offices, many dating over four hundred years, and most featuring the magnificent Dutch style decorative gable ends common in Holland's period architecture.
This view down the Herengracht was chosen as it encompasses the variety of small craft mixed in with gracious Dutch barges, many converted to residences; the canal side architecture and the plane trees giving a dappled sunlight over all.
